Assessment of your language skills
Anyone who lives and works in Austria should understand German reasonably well.
Therefore, for most professions it is absolutely necessary to present recognised proof of knowledge of German in order to obtain the Red-White-Red Card. You can obtain this official proof from:

If you are not sure which level (A1-C2) you currently have for German or English, you can voluntarily take a German language assessment test (WIFI International – Fit 4 Austria Spracheinstufungstest – Deutsch) and an English language assessment test (WIFI INT – Fit 4 Austria Language Test – English) through our cooperation partner WIFI International.
Important:
You do not need these tests for a Red-White-Red Card. These tests are optional and allow you to assess your language skills. Please note: this is not an official language diploma.
